about Polocrosse

Originally this sport comes from Australia where it was developed since the end of the 30s. In the meantime, Polocrosse is also played internationally and asserts itself in more and more countries as a serious sport.

Polocrosse is a combination of Polo and Lacrosse, a team sport on horseback. Teams score points by throwing the ball through their opponents goal posts. At the same time, they protect their goal from the other team. All players can catch, carry and throw the ball with their racquets.

Every team has 6 players of whom are 3 on the field. Every rider just needs one horse during a competition. A team can be formed of female and male riders of different age. The teams are organized according to the corresponding levels of the players. The levels range from A to D.

A game has 6 to 8 chukkas which have last 8 minutes each. After every chukka team members and horses are exchanged. The playing teams have a offensive player (No. 1), a centre player (No. 2) and a defensive player (No. 3). The field (146.5 m long and 55 m wide) is divided into 3 segments, a goal scoring area before every gate and the Centre area.

To achieve a goal the player No. 1 must throw the ball from the goal scoring area directly through the goal posts at the end of the field.

Polocrosse, was first introduced in Germany in April 2004. Due to the personal commitment of Ivor Young (vice-president of the World-Polocrosse Association) as well as Sally Mouson and Marion Weers, training units took place for the first time in Vechta and Rhauderfehn, Germany, in April and September 2004.

t the end of September we got to know this sport for the fist time at the “Rusthof”. The riders were immediately enthusiastic to get to know Polocrosse. No sooner said than done the first exercises took place. More and more riders were found quickly, enjoying the sport and wanting to take part. Training weekends for December 2004 were organized soon in cooperation with Ivor Young who arrived from Ireland.
