1. German Polocrosse masters - 18th of August, 2008

(For pictures of the game klick here)

What is Polocrosse, and where is Kananohe located?

About 250 spectators, who have visited the 1. German Polocrosse masters at Gestüt Breschke on 16th and 17th of August, can answer these questions fluently now. Not only from the region Hannover, but even from Hamburg , Detmold and Minden guests had arrived to learn more about the horse-riding style Polocrosse which is quite new in this country. The Reit- und Polocrosse-Verein Kananohe e. V. celebrated a successful tournament premiere in front of a very much interested and skilled audience - and with best summer weather.

Seven teams, with Polocrosse-players from Holland , fought hard for the ball in three play categories on both days . Deserving winner in the category A (player with tournament experience), became with 8:4 the team -Steenhuis recycling- from Holland which had a confident goal scorer in the 18-year-old Dutch international player Jochen Elsinga. Although he sat on a borrowed German horse, Elsinga who plays Polocrosse since the age of six, could score easily every time he got the ball. Nevertheless, the team "Smoke Factory", the A team of the host, Kananohe, would not be discouraged, but fought up to the final whistle with full dedication.

It was a really big pleasure to play against these strong opponents, said Johanna Rossbach, the 19-year-old number 1 of the host. We have got an invitation for a training weekend in Holland in autumn. I hope Jochen will teach us a few good tricks.

In the second final play, category B (advanced players), the team Kananohe B won with 6:4 against the team Mix B. Also three other teams of the categories B and C were convincing by good achievements, high engagement and a lot of fun in the sport, so that there were only beaming faces at the price presentation and many valuable prices which numerous sponsors had donated.

(The tournament results in detail see below.)

The spectators were inspired , too, by the small rural tournament at the new Polocrosse-field at Gestüt Breschke. During the breaks they were entertained by an Red-Indian show act of "Chieftain Cacique", alias Rolf Singelnstein from Wedemark. On horseback of igneous thoroughbred Bond who absolutely was his own man and who had too agile legs, the chieftain who offers -services all around the horse- in normal life, shot with bow-and-arrow in a gallop at a moving target. This artificial buffalo was pulled through the Polocrosse´s prairie by a car of the brand "VW Cross Polo", made available by the car seller Isernhagen. Thus the tournament visitors could see this nice car in advance. This was also the first prize of the sweep-stake: A weekend with the Cross Polo from the car seller Isernhagen. The jackpot was hit by a happy winner from Wedemark on Sunday.

Kirsten Breschke, the president of the Reit-und Polocrosse-Verein Kananohe e. V. which was founded only in spring 2008, and tournament leader Andreas Rieger are very happy about the successful premiere of their tournament. We are a small club whose members were all riding at the tournament. Therefore, we are happy that everything went well, and we will try to go back to this tournament success in Summer 2009. The club thanks all assistants and of course all sponsors for the excellent support as well as the players for thrilling and fair competitions.

The tournament results in detail:

Place 1: Holland A "Steenhuis recycling" Jochen Elsinga (1), Having Steenhuis (2) and Grietinus de Haan (3)

places 2: Kananohe A "Smoke Factory" Johanna Rossbach, Beate Rossbach, Caren Ollenschl¡¡ger

place 3: Kananohe B "Könnecke advertising" Andreas Rieger, Kirsten Breschke, Solveign Grage

place 4: Team Mix B of Fleur Bartel (Holland), Dr. Gabriele Krzemien (Garbsen-Stelingen), Pia Roloff (Kananohe)

place 5: Team Stelingen B Holger Gronwald, Katja Banik/Uschi Rust, Kerstin Scheinpflug

place 6: Holland C Mijndert Heineke; Sofie Deurinckx, Petra Muster's

And I solemnly promise to improve my English by then. See You in 2009!

European Challenge in Kent July, 12. - 13.th `08

This year the European Challenge was organised in Kent . Besides Germany, Norway, France, the Netherlands, England and Ireland were represented. Moreover, the national teams England and Australia played against each other. The tournament was organised on the Risebrigde farm, which is owned by Jason and Penny Webb who also breed Australian Stock-Horses. Jason and Penny have achieved something really unusual to hold this tournament.

We came as strangers and left as friends. Already the way from the ferry to the Risebrigde farm was a dream, the scenery wonderfully and even the weather. We were accommodated with so much cordiality and we felt very well that weekend. Very qualified horses were made available to us (big thanks to the horse owners). Quite special thanks to our personal responsible person (trainer) Wayne Henning, who looked after us so much and gave very good advice in every situation. Very big thanks to you from the whole German team.

We are looking forward to see you all again.

2nd German open 2008

On the weekend 31st of May to 2nd of June, 2008 the second German Open Polocrosse-tournament took place in Garbsen-Stelingen. 8 teams of different levels which had come from Germany and Holland had pit their strengths against each other in absorbing matches. The finale was delivered between two equal opponents, the teams " Netherlands 2" and "Kananohe 1" of the Reit- und Polocrosse-Verein Kananohe e.V.. After three exciting, quick Chukkas Kananohe could get the victory in the end. Place 3 and 4 were made by Dutch teams like place 2. Also "Kananohe 2", the beginner's team of the club from Langenhagen, could register substantial results and impressed by good skills. Thus they attained a draw in the first match and a victory in the second. So they got place 7 in the overall standings.

All in all we look back at a wonderful, exciting and sporty weekend which has spoilt us especially with the weather. We would like to thank the organizer and many assistants for their application and the good organisation and send greetings to our Polocross-friends in Holland who have not avoided the wide journey. We hope that this really nice tournament will also take place during the following years again.
